It’s All in the Eyes: Protecting Your Vision

Though natural ageing causes some deterioration in one’s vision, poor eye care can speed up the process. Fortunately, you can correct most eye problems using the right eyewear.

Whether they are protective or prescription, the eyewear brand that you intend to use should follow your optician’s recommendations.

Pay the Optician a Visit

Even if your eyes are fine, you should still regularly visit your optometrist. They will conduct a full examination of your eyes so you would know if you need to wear glasses. You can also ask your Optician some questions about how to properly take care of your eyes.

Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses are not only a fashion accessory. If you buy a pair, make sure that they have UV protection lenses. These will protect you from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, which can damage your eyesight.

Sleep is Key

Proper sleep does a lot of good for good eye health as it lessens the risk of glaucoma and other eye diseases. It also prevents dry eye and eye strain. To care for your eyes, the ideal amount of sleep is between eight to ten hours.

Limit the Use of Technology

Phone and computer screens can cause eye strain and dry eyes, which can cause your eyesight to fluctuate over time. Make sure to look away from the screen every 15 to 20 minutes. If you can, try to limit screen time to only a few hours, and take regular breaks.

The Right Diet

Make sure to have a balanced diet to keep your eyesight healthy. Eat food that contains Vitamins C and E, Lutein, Zinc, and Omega-3 fatty acids. These types of food will keep your eyes healthy.
